Small town of Character
Parné-sur-Roc, whose 3 flowers denote a "Highly commended" Village in Bloom, sits on a hillside overlooking the river Ouette.
Wandering through its streets and alleyways, visitors can explore:
- The church, with its 16th and early 17th century frescoes; its Romanesque porch cum bell-tower is unique in Mayenne.
- The medieval bridge that links Sablé to Laval.
- The impressive lime kilns in which carboniferous limestone, dug out of the neighbouring quarry, was heated to produce the lime needed to fertilise the fields.
- Remarkable houses, many of which were once inns, such as the Croix Blanche.
- The 'roquets' (narrow streets) decked with flowers.
